WHY

College campuses are like little nations, composed of multiple clusters of unreached people groups. We believe students are the best possible missionaries to be mobilized to reach these unreached people groups.

Most people yawn when they hear statistics, but a few are worth considering. Studies show college students are among the least likely to attend a church (Barna). Other studies show less than 5% of students on college campuses are active in the Christian faith.

However, God is up to something wonderful in our time. Students are gathering to pray in unprecedented numbers. Students are beginning to see God move on their campuses in miraculous ways. Students are reaching non-Christians with the gospel, forming student-led simple church communities and branching out to demonstrate God's kingdom on their campus.

The first Student CPx (Student Church Planting experience) began in 2008 to help nurture student church planting movements on college campuses. Since that time, we've replicated this training experience in the U.S. and a few times internationally.

Here is the short story of our origins.

Erik Fish had been working in church-based campus ministry for a number of years before sensing God's call to mobilize student-led churches on the campus. In 2007, Erik had started to build relationships with Jaeson Ma, of Campus Church Networks, Neil Cole, friends from 24-7 Prayer, Native American friends from Haskell University, and Dr. Pam Arlund, from the All Nations Family. Each of these friendships were key in starting the first Student CPx training.

Erik and Pam dreamed together about mobilizing a new student volunteer missions movement (the first Student Volunteer Movement started in the late 19th century and mobilized tens of thousands of students to go to the nations as missionaries).

As Erik and Pam talked and prayed, they sensed a divine link between the student church movement on campuses and a movement of students going to the nations. What church planters were practicing overseas among the least-reached people groups of the world would be similar to strategies students could use to reach their campuses through student church planting.

In Summer 2008, Student CPx was formed to nurture movements of student-led churches on college campuses. Missionaries from All Nations joined Erik and Pam in offering resources, time, and staff to help mentor these first student missionaries sent from Student CPx.

Since that time, Student CPx has been replicated in other places. We've seen Jesus do some really cool things through students!

Students follow Jesus' teachings together.

Jesus shows up on their campus.

They reach the lost.

The sick get healed.

They start prayer rooms.

They worship.

They baptize new believers.

New believers are formed into simple church communities.

Students leave college with a call to go to the marketplace, neighborhoods and nations on mission with Jesus.

Student CPx is a student church planters training not rooted only in theory and lectures. It's a hands-on, experiential training that strengthens relationships and instills values among a network of student church planters and mobilizers.

Early on, Erik felt the Lord say about Student CPx and the student church movement, It's not about campuses. It's about the nations.

The need of the hour is great.

There are 70 million college students in the world.

There are almost 25,000 universities on the planet.

If churches, campus ministries, and mission agencies work together, we can mobilize one of the greatest forces that ever worked through history to change the world & the youth.
